We’re in our last month of the year. A time we reflect, give praise, anticipate. A time we make resolutions.

Evaluate.

A time we often sit and cross off items on our goal’s list, perhaps shifting some to the next calendar year.

Because, life.

But for just a moment, think what if, because of that shift, we’re being asked to wait.

What if there’s a reason that plan did not manifest. Your plans – your life, your every step – are according to His will.

Not yours. Not your timing, your schedule, your well-laid-out ideas and dreams. Your own personal agenda. Your goals.

We know this.

What if we’re being asked to wait – and not be frustrated – for a transition in your life designed for that plan to unfold?

What if… what if, this had nothing to do with the excuse of “there wasn’t the time to develop this year’s goal,” and was actually God not providing you the time because it wasn’t the right moment?

What if we just trust God? This is where we sit silent and wonder, “Yes, what if? Then what? How long do I wait with this ‘trust’?”

Well, forever.

What if instead of just jotting down our goals, we pray over them for the coming year. Over our resolutions. What they need to be versus our desires? What if we ask God what He wants from us this coming year? What if we allow Him to walk us in all of our steps? What if that’s one of our goals?

Goal #1: Allow God to Guide me.

What if, as we think forward, we do so in a state of gratitude for what He will provide, and not for just what we’re asking for?

What if we express gratitude for the unknown in the coming year?

Goal #2: Thank God every day for what He’s going to do in my life.

What if that is the shift we need?

The preparations of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. (Proverbs 16:1)

What if we believed that?

What if we not only believed that, but lived it? What if we only drew out our plans after going to the Lord about them?

What if we read the saying, “We make plans, God laughs,” and not actually chuckle, but take it to heart?

What if, instead of telling ourselves and others what our 2022 will look like, we tell others what our God envisions for us?

Goal #3: I will lay out My Plans

According to His will.

What if when we reflect, give praise, anticipate, make resolutions, and evaluate, we spend some time in His word. On our knees. And be still. Listen. Wait.

What if we simply sit and listen to God. Who in turn is listening to us? What if that stillness is what we need for our answers? If we just sit long enough.

What if.

Goal #4: I will wait for your Answers.

A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. (Proverbs 16:9)

What if we trust this to happen?

What if we look at all of these words: trust, pray, guide, listen. And what if we act on those instead of our own desires.

So, now, as we sit and reflect on our 2021, let’s use this month before we welcome in 2022, and let’s truly turn our lives over to God to give us what we need.

To trust in His process. His plans. His road before us.

What if.
